G W Whitaker was assigned to the 483rd TC Det as a Teletype Operator (05C20) at the time it was organized at Fort Benning, GA, and traveled to Vietnam with the unit arriving in Nha Trang Bay on the USS Gordon on 9 June, 1966. On 7 July 1966 G W Whitaker suffered a heart attack and died, just 7 days before the 281st AHC was fully organized with all of its assets in Vietnam.
