Dear Steve:

Really enjoyed your Web site.  It is one of the best I've seen.

I was with the 174th AHC when it formed at Fort Benning in late 1965 and early 1966 and moved to VN in March 66.  We were stationed at Lane AHP and were part of the 14th CAB and like you, the 17th CAG.  I don't know if you know this or not, but in 1966-67, General Seneff had monthly song contests that were held in conjunction with his commanders conferences.  MG (then LTC) Ben Harrison is very familiar with them, he was the 10th CAB commander at the time.

I am writing a book about the songs of the Army in VN.  To see what we are trying to accomplish and provide you with some credibilty, please go tothe following site:

I have recovered six reel-to-reel tapes, each of them contain a live recording of one of the song contests referred to above.

This is what I'm looking for from the 281st.  At the January 1967 song contest, a group of singers representing the 281st participated with the song I've Laid Around And Played Around Vietnam Too Long.  It's a great song  that is still sung to this day as the theme song of a group of singers known as "The In-
Country Singers" whenever they have a chance to perform.  I have sung with them a few times.

What we don't know is who: name, rank, instrument played, etc., for this group of 281st AHC singers.  They may have been enlisted men or officer-pilots.  Can you help?

Thanks and best regards,

Marty Heuer
